Welcome to my decor world!
My name is Katalin and I am a wife and mother of 2 beautiful girls aged 3 & 6. Most of my time is spent in Maryland but we also have a home in Naples, Florida. We are blessed to travel frequently and often go back to my native Hungary. These travels and experiences inspire many of the designs I choose.
From a young age I was passionate about design & decor, although there was very little opportunity to further my passion in Hungary.
That all changed when I graduated from University in 2006 and I set off for my new home, the USA!
My decor journey began in 2018 when I transformed my personal Instagram account to a business-centered account, after much urging from friends, family and my wonderful husband.
I am the Founder & CEO of DBK Decor and Design by Katalin. I am a Blogger, Content Creator, Instagram Verified Influencer and E-Designer as well as seller of the beautiful decor pieces you will see here. My designs have been featured in numerous outlets including the Daily Mail and Mirror Online. They have been seen by millions of people in many countries.
My goal is to offer unique, beautiful and affordably-priced pieces that will transform your house to the home of your dreams. And I firmly believe you can do this without spending a fortune!

How it all started
I remember being about 10 years old, laying in my parents backyard and looking up at planes high in the sky. I imagined where they were going and who was on them. In my mind, they were going to America! To their beautiful homes. I knew then that one day I’d go too! To MY beautiful home.
I also remember all through my school years saving a little of my lunch money every day so, by the end of the month, I could buy an American magazine like Vogue or Cosmopolitan. I was fascinated even then with fashion, decor and life here in the U.S.
So, when I graduated from college, I told my parents that I was going to follow my dreams in America. They were shocked! But they knew my very small town in Hungary could not hold me. I got on my first-ever plane and here I am!
In truth, looking back, I’m shocked I made it! There were many times that were difficult. Very little money, bad jobs and few people I could rely on. Thank God for IHOP( because their menu had pictures!) and for McDonald’s dollar-menu!
But I was here!! And I don’t ever quit! So, gradually I built my life. First by buying a bed(I slept on the floor for the first 6 months) then a TV( which was promptly stolen from my apartment in a not-so-desirable neighborhood). But still, I pushed forward, not wanting to give up and return home a failure.
After a few years I ended up in Miami, which is where I met my husband in 2011. He was then, and is now, my soulmate and my best friend.
About the velvet collection
Every story starts with a great experience….
There is no season I love more than Autumn! The smell of the leaves and the crisp, cool air! The fireplace roaring at night! The anticipation of the approaching Holidays!
Perhaps because I’m a late September baby. But whatever the reason, I love it!
This is why I started my Velvet Collection with Pumpkins and Hearts!
And when my girls were young it made more sense to decorate with soft, unbreakable items. This love of Autumn and the need for “child-proof” decor were the driving forces behind this collection.
As a very young girl growing up in a small town in Northern Hungary I learned from my Mother and Grandmother the skills and innovation to make things with my own hands. We did not have extra money that allowed us to buy luxury items, so, we made them ourselves! Whether it was clothes for my doll or even the doll itself, I learned that making it with my own hands made it special.
Each item in The Collection is made by ME! I do it here, in my Maryland home, with my daughters learning beside me. Just like I learned!
All materials are hand-selected by me and each piece is made with pride and love!
